Madras High Court upholds KFC's use of FSSAI-approved filtration agent

FSSAI CASE – MADRAS HIGH COURT UPHOLDS KFC’S USE OF FSSAI-APPROVED FILTRATION AGENT

The Madras High Court has ruled in favor of KFC India, upholding the company’s use of a filtration agent that is approved by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The court dismissed a petition challenging the use of the filtration agent, stating that it does not pose any health risks to consumers.

The petitioner had argued that the filtration agent used by KFC was harmful to human health. However, the court found that the petitioner had failed to provide any concrete evidence to substantiate these claims. The court noted that the FSSAI, after thorough evaluation, had approved the use of the filtration agent, and there was no reason to doubt its safety.

KFC India welcomed the court’s decision, emphasizing that the company is committed to providing safe and high-quality food to its customers. The company stated that it strictly adheres to all FSSAI regulations and guidelines, and that the filtration agent in question is used in accordance with approved standards.

This ruling is a significant victory for KFC India and reaffirms the company’s commitment to food safety and quality.

FSSAI also asked States to leverage on the Food Safety on Wheels initiative, wherever available. “ The Food Safety on Wheels (FSW), where available, are to be positioned in the prominent markets or on the basis of specific intelligence inputs to ensure such products are safe to consume and strictly as per the respective food products standards,” the order stated.
