Income Tax Return: How to file your ITR on the new portal of Income Tax?

ITR can be filled both offline and online. However, for taxpayers who need to fill more data, offline mode is the only option. For filing in offline mode, JSON utility has to be downloaded. Because the Access/Java utility has been discontinued. It is okay for common taxpayers to file ITR online.

  • You have to register on the portal. If you are using it for the first time then you will have to create your User ID and Password along with your Permanent Account Number (PAN). After that you have to login to the portal.
  • He saw you see ‘e-file’ tab now click on it. Then click on ‘File Income Tax Return’.
  • Now you have to select the assessment year for which you are filing ITR
  • and click “continue”. It will ask whether you want to file ITR online or offline. You can choose online.
  • Now you have to choose whether you want to file ITR as an individual, HUF or other. So you choose the individual.
  • In the next step, you have to choose the ITR that you are eligible to file. There are different conditions for filing ITR. So, for example, a salaried person with income up to Rs 50 lakh, a house property and agricultural income up to Rs 5,000 can file ITR 1. ITR 2 can be filed by individuals and HUFs who do not have income from business and profession. Right now, only ITR 1 and ITR 4 are available for individuals to file.   • Now in this step you will be asked the reason for filing your ITR on income above the basic exemption limit or under 7th provision under section 139(1). Under this section, if a person has deposited an amount exceeding Rs 1 crore in one or more current accounts during the year, has spent more than Rs 2 lakh on foreign travel or payment of electricity bill more than Rs 1 lakh If done, he is liable to file ITR. You need to select the correct option.
  • Now you have to fill all the details related to the bank account in which you want to get the refund.
  • Now you will be directed to file Income Tax Return. A lot of information will already be available to you this year including bank interest, capital gains etc. Check these details before submitting your ITR. You have to verify the return summary and verify it.
  • Final, you will need to verify the ITR. Remember that the process of filing ITR is not complete without ITR verification. This can be done by sending the hard copy to Bengaluru.
