EMERGENCY: Income Tax Portal glitches! Audits breathing down our necks Professionals stranded, panic mode activated! Professionals are ready to meet deadline, but, is the Govt ready with proper portal?
The deadline for submitting the tax audit report via the e-filing ITR portal for designated taxpayers is September 30, 2024. With just 12 days remaining, the ITR e-filing portal is experiencing numerous glitches when it comes to uploading tax audit reports. Many chartered accountants and tax professionals have voiced their concerns to ET Wealth Online and on social media, indicating that they have been unable to upload their tax audit reports since September 18, 2024.
“With the deadline for tax audit report filings rapidly approaching, taxpayers and professionals are encountering significant hurdles due to ongoing issues on the Income Tax Department’s website. As the deadline nears, increased traffic to the portal has led to slowdowns and technical problems that are causing widespread frustration,” stated CA Deepak Chopra, Chairman of the Direct Tax Committee of the Karnataka State Chartered Accountants Association (KSCAA).
What is the specific problem preventing the upload of tax audit reports on the ITR e-filing portal?
The primary issue is related to the upload of the tax audit report. Chopra explained to ET Wealth Online that the problem is, “Attachment upload issues for audit reports. The portal is simply not accepting the uploaded PDF files of balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other documentation.”
Anita Basrur, Partner at Sudit K. Parekh & Co. LLP, remarked to ET Wealth Online, “On September 18, 2024, the ITR portal was entirely non-operational for the entire day, with uploading only becoming possible late at night. Such disruptions place immense pressure on both the tax auditor and the assessee.”
On September 18, the portal faced complete downtime for the entire day, leading to severe challenges for tax auditors and assessees alike.
