Legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has once again set a new record, this time in the financial sector. At 82, the megastar has emerged as India’s highest tax-paying celebrity for the financial year 2024-25, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan. According to reports, Bachchan’s total earnings for the year amounted to an impressive Rs 350 crore, leading to a tax liability of Rs 120 crore.

Amitabh Bachchan’s Earnings in FY 2024-25

A report by Pinkvilla states that Bachchan’s income comes from multiple sources, including films, brand endorsements, and his long-running television stint as the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati. His financial success has made him one of the highest-earning individuals in the Indian film industry, even at 82.

A source close to the development shared, “From starring in some of Indian cinema’s biggest films to being the top choice for major brands, Amitabh remains an actor in demand. His earnings from these ventures amount to Rs 350 crore, making him one of the highest individual earners in the industry.

Amitabh Bachchan Pays Rs 120 Crore in Taxes

With an income of Rs 350 crore, Bachchan paid a whopping Rs 120 crore in taxes for FY 2024-25, securing his place as the highest tax-paying celebrity in the country. Reports indicate that his final advance tax installment of Rs 52.5 crore was paid on March 15, 2025. This move dethroned Shah Rukh Khan, who was previously the highest taxpayer, having paid Rs 92 crore in taxes last year.

Bachchan’s commitment to financial discipline has been widely recognized. The source further stated that he ensures that he pays his taxes on time and remains a role model for many.

Surpassing Shah Rukh Khan and Other Celebrities

By paying Rs 120 crore in taxes, Bachchan surpassed Shah Rukh Khan by 30% and moved from the fourth spot to the top of the highest tax-paying Indian celebrities list. In the previous financial year, the Paa actor had paid Rs 71 crore in taxes, meaning his tax contribution saw a sharp 69% rise this year.

Other notable names on the list include Thalapathy Vijay with Rs 80 crore and Salman Khan, who paid Rs 75 crore in taxes.

Despite his age, Bachchan continues to be a dominant force in the industry. He was last seen in Vettaiyan alongside Rajinikanth and Kalki 2898 AD, featuring Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone. He is also hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 and has confirmed his return for the next season.

Big B’s impressive income comes from multiple sources, like, major film roles, numerous brand endorsements, and hosting the popular game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. 

His final advance tax installment of ₹52.5 crore was paid on March 15, 2025. With this achievement, Amitabh Bachchan has surpassed Shah Rukh Khan, who was previously the highest taxpayer in the country.

#2. Shahrukh Khan: 92 crores

Shah Rukh Khan was the highest tax-paying celebrity in India for the financial year 2023-24, contributing a substantial ₹92 crore in taxes. This achievement was largely due to his successful film releases during that year, including Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki. 

Pathaan grossed over ₹1000 crore worldwide, while Jawan earned ₹1150 crore, making them two of the highest-grossing films of the year.

SRK’s return to Bollywood with these blockbuster films solidified his position as one of India’s highest-paid celebrities. His tax payment of ₹92 crore for FY 2023-24 was significantly higher than other prominent figures like Virat Kohli and Salman Khan.

#3. Thalapathy Vijay: ₹80 Crore

Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay took the second position among India’s highest tax-paying celebrities for FY 2023-24. With a tax contribution of ₹80 crore, he maintains his strong presence on the list of top taxpayers.

Vijay’s substantial earnings stem from his immense popularity in the South Indian film industry, lucrative movie deals, and valuable brand endorsements. 

The actor has also recently entered politics by launching his party, Thamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), with plans to contest in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

#4. Salman Khan: ₹75 Crore

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan secures the third position on the list with a tax payment of ₹75 crore for the financial year 2023-24.  His income continues to flow from various sources, including film projects, television appearances (particularly as the host of Bigg Boss), and numerous brand endorsements.
