A case of misuse of PAN number has come to light in Vasundhara area. It is alleged that a chartered accountant (CA) used the PAN of a person with the same name for 7 years and bought property worth crores by taking a loan. This incident is a warning for every person who has a PAN card.

Sandeep Gupta, a resident of Vasundhara Sector-4, has a PAN card since 1995. The victim Sandeep does income tax and other tax related consultancy after retirement from a private company. His identity was misused by Sandeep Gupta, a chartered accountant (CA) living in East of Kailash, Delhi.

When PAN cards went online, the victim Sandeep Gupta came to know that CA Sandeep Gupta was using his PAN number since 2007. When he contacted the CA, the CA gave assurance but did not stop using the PAN number. In 2007, CA Sandeep Gupta applied for correction in the victim’s PAN card. The correction was done in 2008.

After this, CA Sandeep Gupta started doing his business through his PAN number, while he used to file his own returns with his original PAN card. According to the victim, the accused CA Sandeep Gupta is a senior CA. There is a difference of a few days in the date of birth of both and CA Sandeep Gupta also got his date of birth corrected in 2008, so that it could completely match the details of the victim.

The secret was revealed when the Income Tax notice came

In 2020, the victim received a notice from the Income Tax Department, from which he came to know that CA Sandeep Gupta had purchased property worth Rs 12 crore using his PAN number. He also complained to the department. In 2022, CA Sandeep Gupta opened bank accounts on the victim’s PAN number and started taking loans through credit card.

No action even after complaint to Income Tax, GST

In three years, CA Sadeep Gupta has taken a loan of Rs 41,53,517 through credit card, which is not being paid. The victim has also started getting calls from the bank. Surprisingly, the victim complained to the police, Income Tax, GST and PAN Card Authority in 2024, but no action was taken. On June 28, 2025, he complained to DCP THA, after which the police have registered a report in the matter.
