AADHAAR
AADHAAR NOT MANDATORY FOR EPF CLAIMS

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has issued a circular announcing that specific categories of employees are exempt from linking their Aadhaar with their UAN (Universal Account Number) for processing physical claims.

Exempted Categories:

  • International workers: Individuals who completed their assignments in India and returned to their home countries without obtaining an Aadhaar.
  • Employees who have passed away: In cases where Aadhaar details cannot be corrected/updated after the member’s death, physical claims can be processed without Aadhaar seeding with the approval of the Office In-Charge (OIC).

Important Points:

  • Due Diligence: The EPFO emphasizes the need for thorough due diligence in cases where employees are exempted from Aadhaar linking. Officials must document all verification details and secure approval from the OIC before processing claims.
  • Bank Account Verification: All bank accounts associated with the claims must be verified.
  • Claims Exceeding Rs 5 Lakh: For claims exceeding this amount, officials may seek confirmation from the employer.
  • Settlement Process: Settlements will be processed via NEFT to ensure safe and secure credit transfers.

Additional Information:

  • UAN Importance: UAN remains mandatory for all EPFO members, regardless of Aadhaar linking status.
  • Alternative ID Proofs: For exempted categories, alternative valid ID proofs like passports or citizenship identification certificates can be used for verification.
