Planning to attend Coldplay’s concerts in Abu Dhabi on January 9, 11, 12, or 14? You’re in luck—there are still hotel options available, despite demand surging by as much as 300 percent near the concert venues and shuttle bus pickup locations.
Rikant Pittie, co-founder of EaseMyTrip, noted that hotel prices for the concert weekend (January 10-12) have soared significantly, with some properties increasing rates by up to 300 percent.
“Rooms that were once priced at Dh 492 are now available for Dh 801, with some exceeding Dh 1,500,” he explained.
Given that regular rooms are fully booked, travelers can now opt for deluxe suites and superior rooms at five-star hotels in Yas Island. These accommodations command a premium, with rates starting at Dh 1,200 and climbing to Dh 6,918 per person, which reflects a 78 percent increase during the event.
Concertgoers who plan on staying near Dubai Expo, the designated pickup point at Expo City, should consider Rove Expo City. Room rates there are Dh 1,198 per night for stays from January 11 to 12. These elevated prices will remain until January 14, the last day of the concert, before dropping to Dh 319—a 115 percent increase during the event period.
Economic Boost for the UAE
Travel analysts assert that music tourism can significantly contribute to economic growth in the UAE. An estimated 160,000 attendees are expected for Coldplay’s four concerts in Abu Dhabi.
“The Coldplay concert is poised to drive substantial demand in travel and hospitality,” Pittie commented. He further stated, “These high-profile events are more than just entertainment; they are crucial economic catalysts that have resulted in a staggering 70 percent spike in flight rates and nearly a fivefold increase in hotel prices.”
“We are experiencing an unprecedented rise in demand, with reservations for the concert weekend shooting up by as much as 300 percent,” Pittie noted.
In addition to the music, Pittie emphasized that such events stimulate economic activity, boosting sectors like hospitality, dining, and local attractions while encouraging a global exchange of cultures.
Promising Growth Ahead
Market forecasts indicate that revenue in the UAE’s music events sector is expected to reach around $140.40 million in 2024, with projections suggesting the industry could balloon to $13.8 billion by 2032, highlighting strong growth potential.
“It’s evident that both sports and music tourism are flourishing, and event travelers have ambitious expectations, creating significant opportunities for businesses to engage with this expanding demographic,” said Christopher Evans, CEO of Collinson International, which operates Priority Pass.
Act Quickly for the Best Rates
Fans intending to attend should act quickly to secure their accommodations before availability diminishes or prices rise even higher. The priciest days to book are January 11 and 12 (the weekend). Conversely, January 14 is the least expensive, with January 9 being moderately priced.
While there are plenty of options across 3-star to 5-star hotels in Abu Dhabi, prices near the stadium reflect the increased demand, with budget stays starting at Dh 400 and 4-star properties available from Dh 1,080.
