Understanding the APAAR ID Card: A Game Changer in Indian Education

The Ministry of Education and the Government of India have launched the groundbreaking APAAR ID card as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This innovative initiative aims to provide students nationwide with a unique identity number that digitally preserves their credentials, accomplishments, and academic records. The One Nation One Student ID card will facilitate seamless educational transitions across institutions and streamline the process of tracking academic progress.

What is the APAAR ID Card?

The full name of the APAAR ID card reflects its purpose: “Aadhaar-based Academic Progress And Records”. Launched under the NEP 2020, this program allows students in schools, colleges, and universities across India to receive unique ID numbers, enabling the digitization and centralization of their academic records. With the APAAR ID card, students can easily view all their academic records, including awards, degrees, scholarships, and other significant accomplishments.

Benefits of the APAAR ID Card

The APAAR ID card serves as a computerized form of identification for children enrolled in both government and private schools. It offers numerous benefits that greatly enhance the educational experience:

Centralized Academic Data

The APAAR ID card centralizes and digitizes a student’s academic records, including grades, course completions, and scholarships, into a single, easily accessible location.

Continuous Monitoring

From pre-primary education to college, a student’s APAAR ID acts as a permanent identifier that follows them throughout their academic journey. This feature simplifies academic transfers between colleges across India.

Integration of Aadhaar

Each student’s Aadhaar card will be linked with their APAAR ID, confirming their identification and ensuring consistency in academic records.

Easy Access to Accomplishments

Students can access their academic achievements—such as honors, extracurricular activities, and certificates—without relying on paper-based records, thanks to the APAAR ID.

As the APAAR ID card contains sensitive personal data (including a student’s health information, height, weight, etc.), parental approval is essential for its issuance. This ensures parents are aware of the information on their children’s ID cards, and the data is handled with care.

  1. Visit the APAAR website.
  2. Navigate to the ‘Resources’ section.
  3. Download the APAAR Parental Consent Form.
  4. Fill out the required information in the form.
  5. Submit the completed form to the relevant educational institution or school.

If a parent decides they no longer wish for their child to participate in the APAAR ID program, they can revoke their consent at any time.

Online APAAR ID Card Registration

To receive their APAAR ID card, students need to complete a quick registration process. Here’s how:

  1. Visit the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) Bank website.
  2. Click on ‘My Account’ and select ‘Student’.
  3. Register on DigiLocker by entering their Aadhaar number and other required information.
  4. Log in to DigiLocker and consent to share Aadhaar information for KYC verification.
  5. Enter necessary academic information, such as the name of the institution, class, and course details.

Once submitted, the APAAR ID card will be generated.

Downloading the APAAR ID Card

Once registered, students can download their APAAR ID card by following these steps:

  1. Go to the ABC Bank website and log in.
  2. Locate the ‘APAAR card download‘ option in the dashboard.
  3. Select either the print or download option.

The card will be available for printing or direct download.

The APAAR ID card is set to enhance student accessibility, promote educational continuity, and provide a smooth educational experience nationwide by integrating personal information and academic data. This transformative approach is a vital step toward modernizing the education system in India, making it more efficient and student-friendly.
