If you had not linked your permanent account number (PAN) with your Aadhaar by July 30, 2023 then your PAN must have been classified as ‘inoperative’. You can link your PAN with your Aadhaar online by paying a late fee of Rs 1,000.
However, many individuals are not able to link their PAN and Aadhaar online due to some reasons such as different dates of birth in PAN and Aadhaar. In such cases, they have to visit either the Aadhaar enrolment centre to update the Aadhaar or go to a PAN service centre to update the PAN.
“PAN Aadhaar linking has failed due to DOB mismatch. To update your DOB in PAN, please contact Protean at…. Or UTIITSL at…. To update your DOB on your Aadhaar Card please contact UIDAI at…To link again, click here ‘Link Aadhaar. If the linking request still fails, you are advised to avail the option of biometric-based authentication at dedicated centres of PAN Service Providers (Protean and UTIITSL). You should carry your PAN, Aadhaar, Fee paid (of Rs 1000) challan copy and avail the facility after paying requisite biometric authentication charge at the centre ….” said the Income-tax Department in a communication to a taxpayer when his PAN-Aadhaar linking failed.
To make the necessary changes in your PAN or Aadhaar, you have to pay a small fee, depending on the update that needs to be done. Do remember that you also have to pay a penalty of Rs 1,000 to link your PAN and your Aadhaar.
How to update details in Aadhaar?
“You can update your Address online in the Self Service Update Portal (SSUP). For other details updates such as Demographic details (Name, Address, DoB, Gender, Mobile Number, Email) as well as Biometrics (Finger Prints, Iris & Photograph) in Aadhaar you will have to visit the Permanent Enrollment Center,” said the UIDAI in a FAQ on their website.
How to update details in PAN?
There are two ways to update details in PAN: Using the services of Protean or UTIITSL.
Protean has many designated PAN service providers all over India and they will update the details in PAN on payment of a nominal fee. For using a biometric authentication method to link PAN with Aadhaar, you may have to pay a nominal fee along with a penalty of Rs 1,000.
For example: A Protean service provider in Mayapuri PH-2 said that they would charge a fee of Rs 150 for biometric authentication to link PAN and Aadhaar.
Another service provider in Kuttichira, Kollam district, Kerala said that they charge a fee of Rs 50 for biometric authentication to link PAN with Aadhaar. A service provider in Palus, MIDC road, Maharashtra said that they would charge a fee of Rs 50 for the same purpose. A service provider in Jamia Nagar, South Delhi said they don’t charge any extra amount for biometric authentication to link PAN and Aadhaar.
