In a big move, the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved health coverage under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) for all senior citizens aged 70 and above. No matter their income, about 4.5 crore families with 6 crore senior citizens will get free health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh on a family basis.
This is a huge relief for many elderly citizens across the country! Those already benefiting from schemes like the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), and Ayushman CAPF can now choose to either continue with their existing plan or opt for this new coverage. The scheme ensures that no elderly person is left behind when it comes to healthcare!
