GST- GOM Panel Report: Agreed To Increase GST Rate On Casinos, Online Gaming And Race Courses

The Group of Ministers (GoM) to review the GST levy has agreed to increase the rate of GST on casinos, online gaming and race courses from 18 per cent to 28 per cent. This panel, constituted to re-evaluate these services for levy of GST, will submit its report to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a day or two. The final decision will be taken after considering the report in the next meeting of the GST Council.

Another meeting of the GoM panel was held on Wednesday. After the final discussion on this issue in this meeting, the report was prepared. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who is heading the panel, said a consensus has been reached. The panel will submit its report to the Finance Minister in a day or two. After this, it will be discussed in a possible GST Council meeting later this month. 

Significantly, the eight-member GST GoM was constituted in the month of May last year. The GoM panel headed by Sangma includes Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Gujarat Finance Minister Kanubhai Patel, Goa Panchayati Raj Minister Mauvin Godinho, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister P Thyaga Rajan, Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Khanna and Telangana Finance Minister T. Harish Rao.
