CBI Facilitates Return of Fugitive Sombir Motta from USA via Interpol

On February 10, 2026, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) successfully coordinated the return of wanted fugitive Sombir Motta from the United States. This operation involved close collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Sombir Motta is a fugitive sought by the Haryana Police for serious charges, including murder and firearms offenses. Upon his deportation from the USA to India, he was immediately detained by the Haryana Police.

Prior to this deportation, the CBI had issued a Red Notice against Sombir Motta via Interpol on February 11, 2025, following a formal request from the Haryana Police. The CBI worked diligently with the National Central Bureau (NCB) in Washington, D.C., to ensure the successful location and deportation of Motta back to India.

Red Notices, circulated by Interpol, serve as critical tools for law enforcement agencies globally, aiding in the identification and location of wanted fugitives.

As the National Central Bureau for Interpol in India, the CBI plays a vital role in coordination with various law enforcement agencies throughout the country, leveraging the Bharatpol system to facilitate international cooperation through Interpol channels. Over recent years, this collaboration has led to the successful extradition of more than 150 wanted criminals.
