Chakradharpur Dated: 25.07.2026 CBI Arrests Railway Engineer in West Bengal while accepting Rs.4 Lakh Bribe
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Deputy Chief Signal & Telecommunication Engineer, South Eastern Railway, Chakradharpur along with two representatives of M/s MRT Signals Ltd., Kolkata, in a bribery case.
The CBI registered the instant case on 24.07.2026 against the said public servant and other accused persons on allegations that the accused public servant, in conspiracy with other accused persons, had been obtaining undue advantage from M/s MRT Signals Ltd., Kolkata in lieu of extending undue favours in the processing and approval of Contract Variation File relating to Price Variation Clause (PVC) and other matters relating to Signal & Telecommunication works being executed by the company under the Chakradharpur Division of South Eastern Railway.
It was further alleged that the accused public servant had earlier obtained Rs. 5 Lakh during May 2026 for extending undue favour in connection with the processing of the contract variation file. It was also alleged that the accused public servant had demanded and agreed to receive the pending share of the illegal gratification from the representatives of the private company for further extending undue official favours.
The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused Public Servant red-handed from Howrah Railway Station while accepting Rs.4 Lakh as illegal gratification from the representatives of the private company. The bribe amount of Rs.4 Lakh was recovered and seized.
Searches in the residential and office premises of the accused persons were conducted at multiple locations in West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar. Incriminating documents and digital evidence have been recovered and seized. The accused are being produced before the Competent Court.
This is the first CBI trap case relating to bribery in the State of West Bengal after several years. The successful operation reaffirms CBI’s continued commitment to preventing corruption and taking prompt action against public servants and private persons involved in corrupt practices.
Investigation in the case is continuing.
