Social Security Officer from ESIC Satara Sentenced to One Year in Prison for Bribery
In a landmark decision, the Special Judge for Prevention of Corruption Act Cases in Satara sentenced Swapnil Jadhav, a Social Security Officer (SSO) at the Employee’s State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), to one year of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 50,000 for his involvement in a bribery case on February 10, 2026.
The case came to light when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a complaint on March 28, 2016. It was reported that Jadhav demanded a bribe of Rs. 30,000 from a complainant to avoid imposing a hefty penalty of Rs. 3,00,000 on his firm for employing over ten workers.
After negotiations, Jadhav agreed to accept a reduced bribe of Rs. 25,000. The CBI conducted a sting operation on the same day, apprehending Jadhav as he accepted the agreed amount from the complainant. Jadhav was subsequently arrested alongside a private individual, Abhijeet Jadhav.
Following a thorough investigation, the CBI filed a charge sheet against both Jadhav and Abhijeet Jadhav on June 28, 2016. The trial culminated in the conviction of Swapnil Jadhav, while Abhijeet Jadhav was acquitted of all charges by the Competent Court.
