Zomato customer orders 2 dishes, gets food for 5 people, Rs 600 refund: ‘Restaurant is shocked’
A Delhi woman ordered two dishes using Zomato and was surprised to find that she was delivered food equivalent for five people, plus a Rs 600 refund for one of the dishes. The incident came to light after the customer narrated the incident on Instagram, and the reel went viral.
Shatakshee Kar, a creative manager with an edtech company, said that the incident happened due to a snag in the system, for which her order got mixed up with another, and it was caused because both orders had one dish in common — a raw mango salad.
“It was a Saturday, and I decided to order in, but wasn’t particularly hungry. I really like the raw mango salad from Burma Burma so I ordered that with another plate of mock meat skewers,” Kar said on Instagram. When the food was delivered, however, she noticed that the bag was larger and heavier than it should have been. She checked with the delivery partner, who asked her to check the order number. To Kar’s surprise, the order number was the same, but the customer details were not.
“I checked the bag and the bill. There was enough food for easily five people in the bag and the order belonged to someone else, but the order number was the same,” she said.
Kar then contacted Zomato support, where customer care representatives got in touch with the restaurant to resolve the matter.
The Zomato representative called to tell me that Ma’am, even the restaurant is in shock. They don’t know how this happened. She added, ‘Because one of the items in your order matched the raw mango salad already delivered to you, we’ll issue you a refund for the other dish’,” Kar said. She added that when she asked whether the other customer had complained about the order, the Zomato executive apparently said they had no clarity on which platform the order was placed on, and that until she came forward, there was nothing much to do.
“So I ended up with a refund, free food which I wasn’t able to finish by myself and a raw mango salad that started this whole fiasco,” Kar said.
As her video went viral and gathered more than 7,000 likes, other Instagram users shared similar experiences in the comment section.
The same happened with me once. I ordered a chicken starter from a restaurant, and they sent me a full thali. I ended up giving it away to my maid didi,” said one user. “Something similar happened to me, too. I ordered a roll, but I got butter paneer, and that too 4-5 people’s worth of it. I contacted the customer care, and I got offered a coupon for that amount, so yeah, I enjoyed it with my friends and then also got a free meal for next time,” added another.
A third user commented: “I ordered 4-5 rotis in my office in Gurugram. And instead received two plate chicken tandoori. Me who recently left eating chicken, was looking at the box continuously. Had to give it to my colleague who ate it.”
