What would you do if a huge sum suddenly appeared in your bank account without warning? For one family in Uttar Pradesh, this question became real when an unexpected balance of nearly Rs 10 crore showed up during a routine check. Instead of treating it as good fortune, the account holder chose to act with caution and report the matter.
As per reports, the incident took place in Mainpuri district, where Sita, wife of Parasbhan Baheliya, lives in Devganj village in the Bichwan area. The family depends on farming for their income and follows a simple way of life. On the occasion of Ashtami during Navratri, Sita went to her local bank branch to withdraw money, but found it closed due to a public holiday.
Not wanting to return without cash, she decided to check her balance at a nearby ATM. As reported by NDTV, her account with Bank of India showed a balance of Rs 9,99,49,588. The amount was far beyond anything she had seen before, and she found it difficult to believe.
To be sure, she went to another ATM and checked again. The balance was the same. Realising that this could be an important matter, she recorded a video of the ATM screen on her phone as proof. That video later spread on social media, bringing attention to the incident.
Even after seeing such a large amount, Sita did not try to withdraw any money. She told her family members not to use the money until the bank explained how it appeared in the account.
Rita and her family later went to the bank to report the issue, but the branch was still closed. When officials responded, Rishikant Pandey, manager of the Bank of India’s Karimganj branch, said the situation was likely caused by a technical error or a transaction fault. He assured that the bank would look into the matter and correct it.
Soon a video of her explaining the situation surfaced online. Her actions have been widely praised, as she did not use the money when many others might have done so.
