Demand for timely promotion of Central Excise and Service Tax officers, letter written to Minister

The Central Excise and Service Tax officials have demanded the government to give them promotions in a time bound manner.

An association of these officers has written a letter to Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh in this regard.

The All India Central Excise and Service Tax Ministerial Officers Association has mentioned the absence of ‘protection provision’ in the existing service rules.

The union has said that the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) had finalized the rules for appointment of executive assistants in 2015 without taking comments from the stakeholders.

Union general secretary Chitrasen Garg said in the letter that under these appointment rules, the tax assistant who was getting the first promotion in three years now has to wait for 10 years for the first promotion.

Officials claimed that the provision of protection is missing in these appointment rules, due to which they have to wait for 10 years instead of three for promotion.
