Kochi Branch Office of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) raided a retail store for selling toys which did not have BIS standard Mark (ISI Mark). The store “FRIZBEE” at Oberon Mall Kochi was raided by a team of BIS officials yesterday and a huge stock of various types of toys without ISI mark was seized. A case will be filed against the offenders in a court of law.

Toys have been brought under mandatory certification by Govt of India with effect from 1 Jan 2021 considering the safety of the children using them.  Manufacturing and selling them without ISI Mark is a criminal offence inviting fine of minimum Rs 2 lakhs or imprisonment of upto 2 years, or both.

Consumers are advised to insist on toys with ISI mark. BIS CARE app may be used to check the veracity of the licence and to lodge complaints, if any.
