Your bank’s work may be affected on 16-17 December, 2021. Actually 10 lakh bank employees will be on strike on these days. Negotiations between bank unions and the government remained fruitless. After which about 10 lakh bank employees will be on strike in protest against the privatization of public sector banks. This will affect the functioning of banks on Thursday and Friday.
No assurance from government
The strike has been called by United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). It is an umbrella organization of nine unions in the banking sector. CH Venkatachalam, general secretary of All India Bank Employees Association gave this information. A meeting was held in Delhi on Wednesday (December 15, 2021). Representatives of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and the Ministry of Finance were also present in this. The unions reiterated that they will defer the strike if the central government assures them that they will not introduce the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill 2021 in Parliament. He said that the government has not given any such assurance, so a two-day strike is being held.
CH Venkatachalam said that the strike is to protect the public sector banks and to oppose their privatization. The government had earlier said that it would privatize two of its banks.
