Suzuki Motorcycles will be given a special incentive package by the Haryana government for setting up a new plant at IMT Kharkhoda in Sonipat district. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday approved a stimulus package of Rs 67.62 crore. Suzuki Motorcycles has been given incentive package to generate more employment in this sector. The new plant is expected to generate employment for about 2,000 people in the state.
Providing the stimulus package, Khattar said that the new plant of Suzuki Motorcycles will help in strengthening the auto manufacturing ecosystem of the state. Haryana already has plants for some of the largest auto manufacturers in India, including the largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited.
A decision in this regard was taken in the 14th Haryana Enterprise Promotion Board (HEPB) meeting held in Chandigarh under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister. Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, Education Minister Kanwar Pal and Minister of State for Labor and Employment Anoop Dhanak were also present in the meeting.
The new plant of Suzuki Motorcycles will be set up in the state with an investment of Rs 2,000 crore. The plant, spread over 100 acres of land at Kharkhoda in Sonipat, was recently cleared by the state government after allotting the land to the two-wheeler manufacturer in May this year. The plant is strategically located in the Industrial Model Township at Kharkhoda on the Delhi-Haryana border, adjacent to the Western Peripheral Expressway and State Highway-18. Due to its proximity to Delhi and connectivity with Gurugram, IMT Kharkhoda is expected to be the next major center for industrial development in the state.
The new Suzuki Motorcycle plant in Sonipat will be operational as the company’s second plant in the state in addition to the existing plant at Kherki Daula in Gurugram. The plant has an annual production capacity of 11 lakh two wheelers and has generated employment for more than 3500 people in the state. Apart from two plants in Gurugram and Manesar, IMT Kharkhoda will also be Maruti Suzuki’s third plant in Haryana. Maruti’s third plant at IMT Kharkhoda is spread over 800 acres.
Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, Vijayendra Kumar said in the meeting that Suzuki Motorcycles India Private Limited (SMIPL) is a 100% subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, which manufactures and sells two wheelers of the ‘Suzuki’ brand.
