SBI Experiences Significant Outage Affecting Users Across India

The State Bank of India (SBI) is currently facing a major outage, disrupting a range of services for users across the country. Customers are reporting difficulties with fund transfers, mobile banking, ATM services, and more.

Reasons for SBI Outage

SBI has officially acknowledged the issue. In a statement on its X account, the bank mentioned, “Due to Annual Closing activities, our digital services will be unavailable to our esteemed customers between 01:00 PM and 4:00 PM (IST) on 01.04.2025. We request you to use UPI Lite and ATM for uninterrupted services. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.”

How Many Users Remain Affected?

According to Downdetector, a performance tracking website, SBI services have been encountering issues since 8:15 AM today (1 April 2025). The outage reportedly peaked between 11:45 AM and 12:30 PM, with over 850 users experiencing disruptions.

Notably, around 65 percent of SBI customers faced difficulties with mobile banking, while approximately 31 percent reported issues with transferring funds. Additionally, nearly four percent encountered problems with ATM services.

NPCI’s Statement on the Outage

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has also acknowledged the outage. In response to the situation, they stated on their official X account, “Today due to financial year closing, some of the banks are facing intermittent transaction declines. The UPI system is working fine, and we are working with the concerned banks for necessary redressal.”

Social Media Buzz

Meanwhile, social media is abuzz with memes and comments regarding the SBI outage. One user on X humorously stated, “SBI is already facing a Microsoft outage since ages.”

Another user shared an image from the popular Bollywood movie Phir Hera Pheri, captioning it, “It is the biggest IT outage in history,” implying laughter at the situation.

While some users shared amusing memes to lighten the mood, others expressed their frustration and disappointment over the outage. One user expressed on X, “Unable to access SBI’s Yono app since morning. While I do understand the situation that it’s the start of a new financial year, resulting in audits, etc. This is unacceptable for a bank that is literally the backbone of India’s banking system. HDFC and ICICI apps are working fine!”

In conclusion, the outage has not only affected many SBI users but also sparked conversations and reactions across various platforms, reflecting the importance of reliable banking services.
