The rupee lost 20 paise in early trade on Monday amid geopolitical tensions. Forex dealers said a weak opening in the domestic equities and rising crude oil prices also weighed on the rupee.
The rupee opened at 75.53 per dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market. Later it declined further and came down by 20 paise to 75.56 per dollar. On Friday, the rupee had closed at a seven-week low of 75.36 per dollar with a loss of 21 paise. Meanwhile, the dollar index, reflecting the trend of the US currency against the six currencies, declined by 0.03 per cent to 96.05.
