India’s NMDC faces export hurdles for low-grade iron ore to China due to logistics issues, according to a Reuters source. NMDC has not responded to Reuters’ email request for comments. The source cited a significant shortage of transportation infrastructure impacting exports. China accounts for about 80% of India’s total iron ore shipments. Indian low-grade ore producers rely on foreign markets since domestic steelmakers prefer high-grade ore. NMDC is also progressing toward receiving forest clearances for diamond mining in Madhya Pradesh, producing roughly 10 carats of diamond per 100 tonnes of processed Kimberlite. However, NMDC’s joint venture with Australia’s Hancock Prospecting Pty has yet to commence lithium production, the source added. On Wednesday, NMDC’s shares on the NSE concluded at Rs. 142.40, marking a slight decrease of 0.45%.
