Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will remain closed for six hours on May 8 due to essential runway maintenance work in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season, as announced by the private airport operator, Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL).
MIAL emphasized that a mandatory NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) was issued six months ahead of this maintenance schedule, allowing all involved parties to adjust their flight itineraries accordingly.
The pre-monsoon maintenance is set to take place on both runways, 09/27 and 14/32, from 11 AM to 5 PM. During this timeframe, both runways will be temporarily non-operational.
This yearly maintenance is vital for maintaining the integrity and longevity of the airport’s airside infrastructure. Specialists will thoroughly inspect the runway surfaces for any wear and tear while also implementing preventive measures against waterlogging. This ensures safe landing and take-off operations throughout the monsoon season.
