The Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, has issued a firm statement in response to a fabricated casteist quote that was wrongly attributed to him on social media. He made it clear that those responsible for spreading the false information will face legal action.
CJI Surya Kant emphasized that he is prepared to “bring the full might of the law” against individuals behind the viral post. The contentious post was shared on X by the account @UnreservedMERIT and included a quote in Hindi suggesting that those who remain oppressed, despite holding prestigious positions in society, are to blame due to their own mentality. This was accompanied by a photo of the Chief Justice and the misleading caption, “Chief Justice of India.”

In his statement, CJI Surya Kant firmly denied ever making such remarks. He described the claims as “entirely baseless” and not a reflection of his true words or character. He condemned the spread of such falsehoods and urged the public to verify the information they encounter before accepting it as true.
“I am ready to ensure that the individuals responsible face the legal consequences of their deceit,” he stated, making his intentions clear regarding the seriousness of this matter.
