The IRS’s “Where’s My Refund?” tool, available as both a website and a mobile app, offers a convenient way to stay updated on the status of your US 2024 tax refund.

The “Where’s My Refund?” tool is a free service provided by the IRS that allows taxpayers to check the status of their federal income tax refunds.  Available as a mobile app for both iOS and Android devices, as well as a website, it provides real-time updates on your refund’s progress.

Tracking your refund is easy.  Here’s how:

The IRS Free File service is a programme that allows eligible taxpayers to file their federal income tax returns for free using online software provided by private companies partnered with the IRS. The service is available to taxpayers with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $84,000 or less in 2024.

The IRS has updated tax brackets for 2025, but these will not affect the return you file by April 15, as that will be based on your 2024 income and taxes.

Around 140 million Americans are expected to file their tax returns by the April 15 deadline. Last year, roughly two-thirds of taxpayers received a refund, with the average refund amount being $3,100.
