Two New Members Appointed to Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT)
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has recently appointed two new members to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), as announced by the ministry of personnel, public grievances, and pensions.
According to the statement released by the ministry, IRS officers Prabodh Seth and Ramesh Narain Parbat have been approved for these key positions. Prabodh Seth is set to assume the role of principal chief commissioner of Income Tax (international taxation) in Delhi, succeeding Sanjai Kumar Verma. Meanwhile, Ramesh Narain Parbat will take on the position of Director General of Income Tax (DGIT) for investigations.
It’s worth noting that the current chairman of CBDT, Mr. Agrawal, and Sanjai Kumar Verma were appointed to the Board in June 2023. Mr. Agrawal, a distinguished 1988-batch IRS officer, took up the chairman’s role in June 2023 and will continue to serve in this capacity until June 2025. This appointment marked the succession of Nitin Gupta, a 1986-batch Indian Revenue Service officer.
These appointments reflect the ongoing developments within the CBDT and the Indian Revenue Service, signifying a new chapter in leadership and administration within the realm of direct taxes.
