The Director-General of the Income-Tax (Investigation) for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry has established a 24×7 control room pursuant to an directive from the Election Commission of India (ECI) to oversee election expenditure, thereby aiming to eradicate financial influence on voters ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections in the State and the Union Territory.
“The role of the Directorate is to facilitate equitable and transparent elections by regulating the role of unaccounted funds within the electoral process. In pursuit of this objective, the Investigation Directorate will undertake proactive measures to identify and confiscate unaccounted funds intended for electioneering and voter influence in Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry,” an official statement indicated.
As an integral element of this initiative, the Director-General has instituted a 24×7 control room equipped with a toll-free number, a dedicated fax, email, and WhatsApp facilities to receive complaints and information from the public.

Individuals possessing information concerning the storage, possession, or movement of substantial quantities of cash, jewellery, or other valuables and freebies are encouraged to convey such information to the department through any of the aforementioned channels, as per the official release. It further assured that “The identity of persons providing information will be kept confidential.”
