The Income Tax Department has initiated raids at the residence of Swarup Biswas, a prominent member of the Trinamool Congress and the brother of West Bengal Minister Aroop Biswas. The raids are in connection to allegations of extortion, tax evasion, and undisclosed wealth involving two construction companies.
The ongoing raids are taking place at five locations in Kolkata, including Swarup Biswas’s residence in New Alipore and his wife Jui Biswas’s office. Jui Biswas, who is a local Trinamool Congress councillor and party spokesperson, is also under scrutiny. Additionally, the office of one of the construction companies, located in Kolkata’s Parnashree area, is being investigated as well. Sources have revealed that Swarup Biswas’s association with the construction companies led to the initiation of these raids. At present, both Swarup and Jui Biswas are being questioned, and the documents seized during the raids are being thoroughly examined by Income Tax Department officials.
