ITR Refund: Refund not received yet, so may be the reason, check your status in three steps

The last date for filing income tax is approaching. If you have not yet filed Income Tax Return (ITR), then the last date is 31 March 2022. That is, till this period you can file a return with penalty. If you have filed ITR and the refund has not come till now, then there could be many reasons for this. Let us tell you that with the advent of the new website of Income Tax Department, filing of Income Tax Return has become very easy. This eliminates the hassle of paperwork completely. Taxpayers are always advised to file ITR on time as the sooner you file your income tax return, the sooner you will get your refund. If we look at the data released by the CBDT in the past, 6.25 crore taxpayers have filed income tax returns so far. In this, 4.5 crore people have got refunds. If your refund has not come, then there could be some important reasons, let us know about them.

Technical drawback: The Income Tax Department had launched a new portal in June 2021, after which it faced technical problems for several days. People had also shared information about the problem on social media. Please note here that due to a similar technical issue, your ITR refund may also get stuck.

Lack of documents: Lack of additional documents can also be a major reason for delay in getting refund. To resolve this issue, you can talk to the tax officer and resubmit the required documents.

Non-verification: One of the reasons for not getting the refund is also the verification. If your ITR is not verified within the stipulated time frame, it will be treated as invalid. Under the Income Tax Act, 1961, ITRs that are not verified become invalid.

Bank Information: Even if there is any change in the bank details, there may be a delay in getting your refund. The account will be valid only if the information like mobile number and e-mail of your primary account continues to be received from the new account. An alert will appear on the portal if the information has been changed.

Here’s how to check your refund status

Log in to the Income Tax Portal using User ID Password.

Go to My Account and click on ‘Refund/Demand Status’.

All the information will come in front of you. If the refund has not been made, you can check the status immediately by going to ‘Reason’.
