To

Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman

Hon’ble Union Minister of Finance, North Block, New Delhi-110001.

Sub:-Representation to waive the penalty for late filing of Income Tax Returns u/s.234-F of the Act till 31.08.2024.

Ref:- Our representation dated 9th of July,2024 in this issue.

Respected Madam,

All Odisha Tax Advocates Association (in short AOTAA) is the Association of all the Tax Advocates of Odisha. This Association brought the difficulty faced by its members in filing the Income Tax returns this year to your kind knowledge on 09th of July, 2024 for an immediate remedy.

Income Tax Returns of salaried employees and business men (having non-audited accounts) are generally filed by 31 of July, 2024. After the due date penalty for delayed filing @Rs.1,000/- ora Rs.5,000/- u/s.234-F of the Act will be charged on the respective assessees. It is a fact that the portal of the Department is running so slowly during last one month that it creates hardship to the assessees as well as the Tax Professionals in filing their return of income online.

It is not out of place to mention here that assessees pay tax for availing better services from then Government and in return the tax so collected is utilized for development of infrastructure and welfare activities of the citizens in the country. But here the assessees are not getting that servicea from the Union Finance Department but on the other hand will be forced to pay penalty in form of late filing fee after the due date is over i.e. after 31″ of July,2024. Few screenshots are enclosed here for your ready reference.

Under the aforesaid circumstances, we therefore earnestly request your Honour to direct the service provider to remove the glitches in the portal of Income Tax Department immediately or else waive the penalty for late filing of belated return of income till 31.08.2024 for the AY-2024-25.
