The Income Tax department is currently conducting raids at the residence of Sunil Srivastava, who is reportedly a close aide and personal secretary to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, according to sources on Saturday.
The raids are taking place at nine different locations across Ranchi and Jamshedpur.
Further details are expected soon.
This development occurs just days before the assembly elections in Jharkhand. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), led by CM Soren and allied with the Congress, RJD, and left parties, faces significant competition from the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA alliance in the region.
In a related note, the Jharkhand High Court granted bail to Chief Minister Hemant Soren in an alleged land scam case back in June. Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in January over accusations linked to an alleged land scam and money laundering activities.
The 81-member Jharkhand Assembly is set to hold elections in two phases on November 13 and 20, with vote counting to take place on November 23. (Source ANI)
