The Income Tax (I-T) department conducted extensive raids at multiple locations linked to industrialist Jaikaran Daftari in Kishanganj and Katihar on Friday. The operation involved over 40 locations across various states, including Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and West Bengal, as part of an investigation into alleged tax evasion and financial irregularities.

Jaikaran Daftari’s business portfolio includes diverse sectors such as tea gardens, malls, clothing, furniture, contracting, hotels, and vehicle sales. In addition to Daftari’s properties, raids were also executed at the residence and warehouses of Rajesh Chaudhary, a prominent maize trader in the region.

According to a police source, the raids in Kishanganj commenced at 7 AM, supported by a convoy of 108 vehicles. Local police and paramilitary forces were deployed to maintain order during these operations, which aimed to uncover crucial documents and evidence related to alleged illegal financial transactions.

The operation was conducted jointly by the Bihar and Jharkhand I-T teams, focusing on multiple sites, including his mart, mall, hotel, and furniture store,” stated the police source.

In parallel, officials from the I-T department conducted raids at Chaudhary’s properties, specifically targeting seven maize warehouses located in Kursela, Naugachia in Bhagalpur district, as well as in Bhagalpur city and one in Khagaria. The scrutiny of documents and property-related papers was intensified, considering Chaudhary’s influential status in the region.

During the raids, media personnel attempted to capture footage of the events; however, police and agency officials intervened to ensure that all recordings were deleted, highlighting the sensitivity of the operation.

As the investigation unfolds, further developments are anticipated in the case, shedding light on the financial activities of those involved.
