Income Tax Department is carrying out survey operations at premises linked to actor Sonu Sood, according to sources. The survey by the tax officials is being conducted at six premises linked to the actor in Mumbai. However, an official confirmation on why the searches are being conducted is awaited from the tax department.
tax raids come days after the actor’s high-profile meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who declared him the brand ambassador for his government’s mentorship programme for school students in the capital. After the meeting, Sonu Sood denied any plans for a political debut with Mr Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Sources say, the tax officials are going through the account books, income generated, expenditure and other financial records of Sonu Sood and other entities linked to him.
“I am shocked. The way Sonu Sood has helped lakhs of people, for tax people to search his properties… I don’t think he can do anything illegal,” said Anand Dubey, Shiv Sena leader.
