The Income Tax Department has sent SMSes and emails to about 12,000 tax professionals, reminding them to file audit reports on time for the 2026-27 assessment year by the enhanced weeklong deadline, official sources said on Tuesday.
Key Points
- The I-T Department contacted 12,000 tax professionals to file AY 2026-27 audit reports by the extended deadline.
- The outreach was conducted through SMS and emails as part of the ‘SAKSHAM NUDGE’ campaign.
- The deadline for filing audit reports was extended from September 30 to October 21.
- Professionals who had filed fewer than 50% of their usual reports were targeted by the department.
- Over 19.5 lakh audit reports for the 2026-27 assessment year have been filed so far.
The outreach was undertaken after the department found that a “significant” number of tax audit reports were yet to be filed despite an extension from September 30 to October 21.
The communication has been sent to select professionals who have filed fewer than 50 per cent of the tax audit reports (Form 3CD) for AY 2026-27, compared to the audit reports they filed in the previous financial year, sources told PTI.
About 12,000 tax professionals have been contacted through the ‘SAKSHAM NUDGE’ campaign method, they said.
SAKSHAM NUDGE is a data-driven, non-intrusive initiative of the tax department that encourages taxpayers to make correct and timely reporting.
The tax department and its administrative authority — the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) — has now enlarged its ambit to include tax professionals who play a “very crucial” role in ensuring overall tax compliance
Sources said that over 19.5 lakh such audit reports have been filed so far for the 2026-27 assessment year.
