CBI registers a case against six accused including five Hyderabad based officials of Income Tax Department – 2 Inspectors & 3 Senior Tax Assistants and a private person on allegations of cheating the Income Tax Assesses

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against 06 accused including five Hyderabad based officials of Income Tax Department viz. two Income Tax Inspectors and three Sr. Tax Assistants – Sr Tax Assistant, O/0 CIT (DR)-II, B.Bench, ITAT, Hyderabad; Sr. Tax Assistant, O/o ITO, Ward 12(1), Aayakar Bhawan, Hyderabad; Sr. Tax Assistant O/o. Pr. CIT (AU-4), Kondapur, Hyderabad and a private person (CA) on allegation that the accused public servants in connivance with each other cheated the Income Tax Assesses and obtained undue advantage for themselves. They allegedly misused the data circulated by Income Tax Department in respect of the Income Tax Assesses who claimed high IT Refunds, with directions to send notices for initiating enquiry. Misusing the said data, the accused public servants contacted the assesses over phone and threatened them with hefty penalties. Further, accused allegedly obtained undue advantage into the accounts of accused Chartered Accountant (private person) and got the same transferred into their accounts.

Searches were conducted by CBI at premises of the accused at 6 places at Hyderabad which led recovery of some incriminating documents.

Investigation is continuing.
