Three Income Tax Officials and Police Officer Arrested for Robbery in Chennai
CHENNAI: In a shocking incident, three Income Tax officials and a police sub-inspector attached to the Triplicane police station were arrested for allegedly robbing Rs 20 lakh from a man who had traveled to Chennai to buy a CT scanning machine.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Income Tax inspector Dhamodharan, another officer named Pradeep, SP Prabhu, and police sub-inspector Raja of Triplicane police station. The arrests were made following a complaint by the victim, H Mohammad Ghouse, who hails from Washermenpet.
According to reports from the Triplicane police, Ghouse was carrying Rs 20 lakh to purchase a CT scan machine on behalf of a businessman, Juniad Ahmed, from Vamiyambadi. Ahmed had entrusted him with the funds. On Monday, Ahmed instructed Ghouse to collect an additional Rs 10 lakh from a man in Triplicane.
As Ghouse was riding his bike near the Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital located at the Omandurar Estate, he was stopped by sub-inspector Raja. Upon searching Ghouse’s bag, Raja discovered the cash. Subsequently, he alerted three accomplices, who arrived at the scene posing as Income Tax officials. They displayed identification cards and coerced Ghouse into their vehicle.
During their journey towards Egmore, the suspects allegedly threatened Ghouse with a knife and forcibly took the cash from him. After the robbery, they dropped him off and fled the scene.
Following Ghouse’s report of the incident, the police promptly registered a case and conducted an investigation, leading to the arrest of the involved officials.
