Mail comes in the name of IT department
PGI resident Akash received a mail. When he opened it, he had information about getting an income tax refund of Rs 41,563. They were asked to claim refund by clicking on a link given in the same mail. The language in the mail Akash received was like that of a government department. In such a situation, Akash was convinced that this refund mail has been sent by the Income Tax Department only. He opened the link and filled the personal and account details sought in it. Akash got an OTP, which he shared. Akash was waiting for his claim money to be credited to his account, but after a while he got a message of Rs 45,000 being withdrawn from his account.
Complaints coming in cyber cell
At present, many such complainants are coming daily, who are being cheated in the name of claiming refund from the Income Tax Department. However, there are many who were tried to cheat, but due to awareness, their money was saved. He told that not only cyber police but also income tax is being told from time to time to make people aware about fake messages.
Details are sought through mail
The cyber cell in-charge told that many types of information are sought in the mails that the thugs are sending to the people. Such as PAN number, full name, correspondence address, pincode, mobile number, date of birth, email address, bank account number, Aadhaar number and bank name. After filling these details, when it goes ahead, OTP comes on one of your numbers, it is asked to fill it and as soon as the user does so, money is withdrawn from his account.
