The Delhi High Court dismissed a plea by 27 candidates to postpone the May 2024 Chartered Accountants (CA) inter and final exams to June due to the Lok Sabha elections.

Justice C Hari Shankar ruled that the hardships faced by candidates in managing their exam schedule around the election dates do not justify derailing the exams for some 426,000 aspirants.

The court noted there are no exams scheduled on May 6th and 12th, the days immediately before the election dates of May 7th and 13th, indicating efforts to avoid conflict with voting.

The court emphasized that it is the responsibility of the candidates to organize their schedules to accommodate both their exams and the opportunity to vote.

The ICAI’s counsel argued that rescheduling the exams to mid-June would disrupt the exam process, assuring that exams are not planned on election dates, thus rejecting the plea for lacking substance.
