Huge GST Fraud Unveiled In Delhi: Rs 54 Crores In False Refunds, 500 Phantom Firms Exposed

The Anti-Corruption Branch of Delhi has unveiled a significant scam involving fraudulent GST refunds within the Trade & Taxes department of the Delhi Government. The investigation has led to the arrest of several individuals, including one GST Officer, three advocates operating fake firms, two transporters, and one proprietor of a bogus company.

Authorities discovered that fraudulent GST refunds totaling approximately Rs 54 crores had been issued to fictitious firms. Additionally, forged invoices amounting to around Rs 718 crores were uncovered.

The scam involved nearly 500 non-existent firms that were allegedly engaged in business activities, including the export of medicines and medical items, solely to claim illegitimate GST refunds.

The probe revealed severe procedural lapses and malpractices by the GST Officer, contributing to substantial financial losses for the government. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to

address the extent of the fraudulent activities.
