New Delhi: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on Fri- day suspended a number of central GST officials in Bengaluru after they we- re arrested over extortion charges by the state police. The arrest and suspen- sion came after Chetan Thalagunda Anantharamu, director at Murrelektro- nik Pvt Ltd, was allegedly forced by the GST officials to give money, even when the company’s plea was admitted.

He lodged a complaint with the local police and also shared the screenshot of the website appeal on social media platform X. The firm was registered with the state GST authorities. Bengaluru’s City Crime Branch arrested four officials based on a businessman’s complaint of kidnapping and extortion.
