Noida Cybercrime Police Nab Former Employee for Masterminding GST Fraud

The cybercrime police in Noida have apprehended a former employee of a private firm for allegedly orchestrating a large-scale Goods and Services Tax (GST) fraud.

The accused, identified as Abhinav Tyagi, hailing from Moradabad and currently residing in Bisrakh, Greater Noida, is accused of generating fake invoices amounting to nearly Rs 10 crore and unlawfully claiming Rs 1.8 crore in GST refunds.

Authorities revealed that Tyagi previously worked in the accounts department of the company, where he handled GST and tax return filings. Leveraging his expertise, he purportedly collaborated with an associate to create forged invoices and submit fraudulent claims before fleeing the scene.

The scam came to light when the company owner became suspicious and launched an internal investigation, leading to a formal complaint being filed with the cybercrime police station.

Senior police officer (cybercrime) Shavya Goel confirmed that Tyagi was arrested on Saturday. During the investigation, officers recovered four mobile phones, eight SIM cards, a laptop, a car, GST-related documents, and a rent agreement from his possession. An FIR has been filed under pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act, and law enforcement is currently working to locate Tyagi’s accomplice.
