ED, Lucknow Zonal Office, has conducted search operations on 19.08.2026 under PMLA, 2002, at 10 premises in Rampur, Saharanpur and Delhi in connection with an ongoing money laundering investigation relating to the alleged illegal acquisition of land and diversion of Government funds for the construction of buildings of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, Rampur. During the search operations, incriminating documents and digital records were found and seized.

Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Lucknow Zonal Office, has conducted search operations on 19.08.2026 under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, at 10 premises in Rampur, Saharanpur and Delhi in connection with an ongoing money laundering investigation relating to the alleged illegal acquisition of land and diversion of Government funds for the construction of buildings of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, Rampur.

ED initiated investigation under the PMLA, 2002, on the basis of 26 FIRs registered by Uttar Pradesh Police at Police Station Azeem Nagar, District Rampur, and one FIR registered at Police Station Kotwali, Rampur, relating to offences including extortion, cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy under the IPC, which constitute scheduled offences under the PMLA. As per the FIRs and the investigation conducted by the Law Enforcement Agency, Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, Rampur, through its Chancellor Mohd. Azam Khan and others, is alleged to have illegally acquired lands belonging to farmers as well as enemy property belonging to the Government of India.

ED is investigating the complete money trail relating to the generation, concealment, possession, acquisition and utilisation of Proceeds of Crime, including the assets created for the University.

During the search operations, incriminating documents, records relating to alleged fictitious donations received by the Trust, and digital records relevant to the investigation were seized under the provisions of the PMLA, 2002.

Further investigation is under progress.
