Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena wrote a letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, expressing concern about the high levels of tax evasion in Delhi. He mentioned the detection of 483 “bogus firms” that evaded ₹3,028 crore in taxes, giving Delhi the unfortunate distinction of having the highest tax evasion in the country.

Mr. Saxena urged the Chief Minister to have the Finance Minister conduct a thorough inquiry to uncover the root causes of these tax evasions. He emphasized the negative impact of such evasion on the public exchequer and urged the Chief Minister to take personal interest in tightening the tax administration in the city.

Additionally, he referenced a report by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, which highlighted the issue of “bogus registrations and fake invoices” at a national level.
