The Central Government has responded to Congress’s allegation of imposing 18 percent GST on the water of river Ganga. It has been said that Ganga water and puja materials used for puja across the country have been kept out of the purview of GST. A detailed discussion was held in the 14th and 15th meeting of the GST Council regarding GST on puja materials on 18/19 May 2017 and 3 June 2017. Then it was decided to keep it out of the slab. Therefore, all the items involved in puja have been kept out of GST.
Let us tell you that Congress on Thursday criticized the Modi government by accusing it of imposing 18 percent GST on Ganga water and called it the height of loot and hypocrisy. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had written on the social media platform The government has imposed 18% GST on the holy Ganga water itself. It did not even think once that what would be the burden on the people who get Ganga water at their homes. This is the height of plunder and hypocrisy of your government.”
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also targeted the Modi government. He wrote, “…Mother Ganga had not called for imposing 18% GST on Ganga water.”
