Google Payments: Changes to your card information stored with Google

This is a reminder from Google to inform you that by December 31, 2021, Google must delete your existing debit or credit card information due to new Reserve Bank of India card storage regulations.

If you still plan to use your card for transactions Google products, how you use your card may change.

Changes to your card information stored with Google

Due to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) card storage regulations, starting Jan 1, 2022, Google can no longer save customer card details for accounts whose billing address is in India (card number, expiry date, etc.) in the current format. However, with your authorization, we can save your card details in a format that complies with the new RBI regulations and keeps your sensitive card details secure.

If you’re using Visa or Mastercard, you only need to make one manual payment using your existing card details to authorize us to save your card in the new format. To avoid having to enter your card details again later, it’s recommended that you make this single manual payment before Dec 31, 2021.

If you’re using RuPay, American Express, Discover, or Diners Card, we will no longer store your card information after Dec 31, 2021 as card storage as per the new format is not supported for these card networks yet. Starting Jan 1, 2022, you must provide card details every time you make a manual payment.
