A college student from Madhya Pradesh has been thrust into a bewildering situation after unearthing transactions amounting to Rs 46 crore from his bank account, leading him to file a complaint with the police. Pramod Kumar Dandotiya, 25, was taken aback upon receiving a notice from the Income Tax and GST departments revealing that a company had been registered using his PAN card, as reported by news agency ANI. The company in question was purportedly operational in Mumbai and Delhi since 2021.
“I am a college student in Gwalior. After the notice from Income Tax and GST, I came to know that a company has registered through my PAN card which is being operated in Mumbai and Delhi. I do not know how my PAN card has been misused and how the transactions have been done,” expressed Dandotiya.
Subsequently, upon gaining information from the Income Tax department, Dandotiya endeavored to relay his concerns to the relevant authorities. Despite repeated attempts to file a complaint with the police yielding no action, he persisted and ultimately lodged his complaint with the office of the Additional Superintendent of Police.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shiyaz K M acknowledged the receipt of an application from Dandotiya, highlighting transactions exceeding Rs 46 crore from his bank account. The ASP assured that the documents are currently under verification. It was revealed that the PAN card had been misused, a company registered through it, and sizable transactions had transpired.
In light of this disconcerting incident, it is imperative for individuals to remain vigilant against PAN card fraud. To prevent PAN card misuse, individuals are advised to:
- Monitor their credit score regularly through credit bureau websites.
- Scrutinize any suspicious transactions with their bank and take precautions such as getting PAN card photocopies attested when submitting them.
- Exercise caution with personal information, avoiding sharing it on suspicious websites.
- Utilize resources like Form 26AS to track transactions linked to their PAN card, aiding in detecting any potentially fraudulent activity.
This unnerving occurrence serves as a stark reminder of the importance of proactive measures in safeguarding one’s financial identity. Vigilance and timely action can make a substantial difference in averting such fraudulent activities.
