Updation of details n EPF Accounts – New Rule

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced some new rules to correct, update employees’ details in their Employees’ Provident Fund accounts. The employee body has issued new standard operating procedure (SOP) guidelines for correcting personal details.

Key Points:

  • Categorization of changes: Profile changes have been divided into major and minor categories.
  • Documentary proof: All correction requests, both major and minor, require supporting documents.
  • Minimum documents: At least two documents are needed for minor changes, while three are required for major changes.
  • Aadhaar verification: An Aadhaar card or E-Aadhaar linked to an active mobile number is sufficient for Aadhaar-related changes.
  • Joint declaration: EPF members can submit joint declaration requests for corrections through the Member e-Sewa portal.
  • Limitations: Corrections can only be made to accounts managed by the current employer, and there are restrictions on the frequency of personal detail changes.

Details that can be corrected:

The new circular allows for corrections in 11 details, including:

  • Name
  • Gender
  • Date of Birth
  • Father’s Name
  • Mother’s Name
  • Spouse’s Name
  • Marital Status
  • Nominee details
  • Bank account details
  • Mobile number
  • Email ID

How to update details:

  • Visit the EPFO Member e-Sewa portal.
  • Login using your UAN and password.
  • Navigate to the “Manage” section.
  • Select the “Update Profile” option.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to make the necessary changes.
  • Importance of accurate details:

Correct information in your EPF account is crucial for various reasons:

  • Smooth claim settlement
  • Pension benefits
  • Loan eligibility
  • Other EPF-related services

Member can only get the data corrected for those member accounts which are generated by his present employer. No employer will have any modification rights for member accounts belonging to other/previous establishments.
