CBI Court Awards Three Years Rigorous Imprisonment to Former Surveyor and Three Private Persons for Fire Insurance Fraud

The CBI Court, Ahmedabad through its judgment and order dated 08.05.2026 has convicted and sentenced Four accused persons namely, Jatin Bhanubhai Joshi, the then Surveyor, Vadodara and three private persons- Madhusudan D. Bhavsar, Smt. Ila N. Patel and Vijay Arvindbhai Kayasth to Rigorous Imprisonment for Three Years with a fine of Rs.50,000 each, in two separate cases of fraudulently obtaining fire insurance claims.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered Two cases of Fire Insurance Claim Fraud on 16.07.2003.

The First case, (RC 10(E)/2003) was registered against Ronald Amarjeet James, Senior Divisional Manager, New India Assurance Co. Ltd., Surat, M/s Sonu Communications & Colour Xerox, Vadodara and Jatin B. Joshi, Surveyor, Vadodara. It was alleged that the accused Ronald Amarjeet James while working as Sr. Divisional Manager, New India Assurance Co. Ltd., Surat during the Year 2002-2003 entered into criminal conspiracy with M/s Sonu Communications & Colour Xerox, Vadodara and Jatin B. Joshi, Surveyor, Vadodara with the objective to cheat in the matter of fraudulently obtaining fire insurance claims by submission of false and forged documents and thereby caused a wrongful loss of Rs. 11,52,233/- to New India Assurance Co. Ltd.

The Second case (RC 9(E)/2003) was registered against Ronald Amarjeet James, Senior Divisional Manager, New India Assurance Co. Ltd., Surat, Manubhai Dayabhai Patel, Anand, Nainesh Suryakant Patel, Anand and Jatin B. Joshi, Surveyor, Vadodara. It was alleged that the accused Ronald Amarjeet James while working as Sr. Divisional Manager, New India Assurance Co. Ltd., Surat during the Year 2001-2002 entered into criminal conspiracy with the above mentioned private persons in the matter of fraudulently obtaining fire insurance claims by submission of false and forged documents on behalf of M/s. M.D. Patel & Co., and thereby caused a wrongful loss of Rs.20,08,595/- to New India Assurance Co. Ltd., Surat.

After investigation, the CBI filed two separate chargesheets on 15.06.2004 and 18.06.2004 against the accused persons.

The Hon’ble Court, after the trial, convicted and sentenced the above mentioned Four accused persons, accordingly, on 08.05.2026. Three accused persons namely, Ronald Amarjeet James (public servant); Nilesh Dayabhai Patel and Umesh Vithaldas Patel (both private persons) expired during the trial and the case against them were abated by the Ld. Court.
