CBI court sentences former SBI branch manager to four years’ imprisonment in bribery case

The CBI Court, Lucknow on 24.08.2026 convicted Ajay Kumar Gaur, then Branch Manager, State Bank of India, Shahupuri Branch, District Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh, in a bribery case and sentenced him to undergo four years imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 90,000/-.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case on February 26, 2018, based on a complaint against Ajay Kumar Gaur, the then Branch Manager of the State Bank of India. It was alleged that the SBI Branch Manager had demanded an illegal bribe of ₹50,000 (5% of the personal loan amount) from the complainant for approving and disbursing his personal loan of ₹10,00,000.
CBI laid a trap and caught the accused Ajay Kumar Gaur red-handed while demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 40,000 from the complainant.
After completion of investigation, CBI filed charge sheet on 27.04.2018 and charges were framed against accused Ajay Kumar Gaur on 09.01.2019.
The Hon’ble Court after hearing the case convicted the accused and sentenced him accordingly.
